More Hairy Tales

Is it true that women notice women more than men do, or am I just imagining things? After my last haircut, my roommates immediately commented on how different I look. A few days later, my department mate commented about my haircut. The class instructor who I meet once a week who I thought barely noticed me amidst the huge class size also commented on my haircut. The comments kept coming in weeks after the haircut. It was nothing fancy, just a one liner “Hey, nice haircut”. At least 15 people noticed. All of them were women.

Yet I went out to dinner with a male friend the same evening I had the haircut. Not a word. I sent some latest pictures to a good male friend. He noticed the iMac behind me in the picture, but not my haircut. I kept bumping into other men, all good friends, but no comment about the haircut.

I wonder if women notice the minor and not so minor changes in other women’s appearance significantly more than men do. And if so, why?

Ha ha! So true! I had a haircut recently and all my girlfriends noticed it immediately. Whereas, my guy friends,uh.... I had to nudge them and hint and point and.... you get the picture! Guess women check out other women more just to keep up with the fashion and ensure that everyone is on the same page :P

I guess it depends upon two factors:

1. Whether Artistic or Creative things are appreciated by that Male.. Males normally logically settled, dont have an eye for details for artistic sense..

2. May be the girl they like the most, they might notice for them or might be expressive (might not be truth) about their comments..

moogelosMaybe the men noticed but preferred not to comment. for instance I sometimes see men who suddenly have shaved off their moustaches but i dont comment. no specific reason. maybe dont wanna embarass them...

Men usually do not notice haircuts, all they note is you looking good/better. And to convey that means taking the risk of being misunderstood for flirting. So there.

Btw, did you get my email about a month back?

I always thought that men were the ones who noticed appearances right down to the most minute and insignificant details. They just choose not to say anything about it, like we girls do.
(At least, that's what my close guy-friends told me.)

i am sure men do notice a trivial thing such as hair. they might not notice jewelry or finger nails. they just probably didn't comment for reasons such as 'may be its too intimate', 'may be its girlish to comment on someone's hair' etc...

Hey, I definitely notice haircuts. If I know the person, I tell them.
